Huh
The question now becomes “why does the post title of a Question post default to the title of the blog?”
Update: because, of course, I hadn’t updated the theme correctly to incorporate Question (actually called Answer) posts. Oh well.
rocketpilot asked: Is this a test?

Drewbot: Google, when I clicked "Turn Off Buzz" I... →
Just an FYI. Clicking “Turn off Buzz” in Gmail doesn’t turn off your profile. It just turns off your own access to it in Gmail. I just discovered this while using Google on my iPhone. The Buzz icon is still sitting atop the page, I can post via my app and now it keeps asking for my location.

Buy fonts at FontShop, host them on Typekit →
Massive and fantastic news. Typekit is still working on its business model and I think the option of buying a font licence direct from a seller and managing it through Typekit is going to be a winner.

Avatar
I’ve finally seen Avatar and the main thought that struck me (OK, after, “damn, that’s some nice hard-surface modelling”) was that the poor overworked production designers and conceptual artists on the film probably had to scientifically justify every single rivet, marking, and graphic they created to James Cameron.

Where is Google's Focus?
When you look at the range of competing products and services — some bought just to be shutdown or reworked into oblivion, some created internally — that Google has released over the last few years, you have to wonder if there’s a plan anymore.
Take Buzz, their new Twitter-ish option built into Gmail. Can the Google Wave team possibly be happy about something that replicates...

Can someone please convince the foursquare guys not to adopt the term “foodie”, a loathsome, contemptible word.
Yes, only the ones who wear Spock ears call themselves “foodies”. We prefer the term “Fooders”.

Client: “I want the site to be metallic and cool, like ‘blow your head off’ cool, like the Transformers”
Me: “This is for a wedding photography business, right?”
Client: “So? Optimus Prime can’t shoot a fucking picture?”
Totally with the client on this one.

– Fare fine’s fair: TransLink — Isn’t it actually rather scandalous that as much as half of the fare evasions with the GoCard system are actually people trying to do the right thing and being fined by a malfunctioning and poorly designed system? Damned right TransLink are wearing the...

The Future of Publishing
designaday:
And now we have iBooks. Once again, the store will be open to independent authors. Amazon claims that they sold more digital books than paper ones over the holiday season. I have no doubt that we will see digital books grow in popularity over the coming years, relegating bound books to fine art and collectibles. It will likely take a long time, but it is inevitable. As this happens,...

Publishing
The next person who tries to argue that the rise of e-book stores (or iBook stores) means the death of publishers when they clearly have no idea what publishers actually do (hint, it’s not just printing text onto paper) gets a slap with a wet fish. I swear to god.

Oh, god, more iPad blather
Sorry, sorry, I know. Still, user interface designers like to think about things with interesting user interfaces. It’s a habit of the job.
Here’s the first thing I thought when I saw the iPad being demoed: the iPad is the laptop for desktop users who’ve never been able to justify the performance/price laptop trade-offs.
I’ve always been a desktop user. I need a big...

– Daring Fireball Linked List: Amazon ‘Capitulates’ to Macmillan. The Amazon-Macmillan spat has certainly been instructive. My desire to continue using Amazon for books has diminished greatly, though S3 right now is too good to give up.
