Not all Brisbane City Council Bus Drivers are Abusive Jerks

But quite a few are.

Here’s the meat of a formal complaint I just made to the “Translink” service that operates our public buses. Please forgive the sententious writing style! (edit: and various errors of expression. I shouldn’t write when I’m quite this cross.)

I witnessed the driver of this bus display exceptionally poor customer service by firstly misunderstanding a young woman of ESL background’s ticket request, issuing her an all-day fare of $5.80 that she could not afford, refusing to acknowledge that he might have misunderstood her request, and then refusing to void the initial ticket and issue a less expensive ticket. The woman exited the bus in some distress.

I regret that I did not intervene on the spot. However, at the termination of the trip into the city, I asked the driver for his name. He asked me why I needed it, and I told him I needed to make a formal complaint. He asked why and I told him it was related to his treatment of the young woman at the beginning of my journey. He told me it was nothing to do with me and I repeated my request for his name. He flatly refused, saying all I needed was the bus number. I told him I’d already made a note of that and then exited the bus.
